We present a three-story house located in a small village near Colares, overlooking the lush green landscape of the Sintra Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The house features two independent entrances. One of the entrances, on the ground floor, leads to a spacious patio and provides access to the entrance hall. On this floor, we find the kitchen with a dining area, a storage room, a bathroom, and a living/dining room with direct access to the exterior. All rooms are bright and offer countryside views.
On the first floor, there are three bedrooms, one of which is a suite, and a spacious balcony with countryside views and plenty of natural light.
The top floor features a large open space currently used as a living and leisure area, where it is possible to enjoy sea views and the peace and tranquility that surrounds the entire property.
Next to the house, there is a plot of land with a walnut tree and a plum tree, providing space to create a vegetable garden for growing your own fruits and vegetables. Alternatively, it is also ideal for creating a garden with a swimming pool and a relaxation area surrounded by nature.
In addition to all this, the house has already been featured in both national and international literature through the book A House in Portugal by Richard Hewitt. An American couple, the previous owners who initially restored the house, decided to document their personal experience in renovating this property in a book. It’s a humorous account mixed with the experience of living in Portugal.
This is the perfect home for those seeking a peaceful location, surrounded by nature and the fresh air of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park. It is also very close to the Monserrate Palace and the social and cultural life of Sintra. Nearby, you will find the village of Colares, where you can access all daily essentials and enjoy a friendly and welcoming community.
About the location and the book
A true story that recounts the joys and frustrations of an American couple living in Portugal.
To escape the harsh winters of New England, Richard and Barbara Hewitt decided to buy a 300-year-old house in a tiny village near Lisbon. Thus begins the couple’s adventures and misadventures.
Infused with irresistible humor and, ultimately, a touching fondness for Portuguese culture, A House in Portugal will undoubtedly delight readers. Richard Hewitt’s reflections on the unique logic of the Portuguese lifestyle are imbued with the fresh perspective of foreign observers, capable of marveling at a multitude of idiosyncrasies and peculiarities that often go unnoticed by locals…
